Dubai loses World Tallest Hotel record

News are not so good for the world’s tallest hotel, in which an elevator ride is a journey itself.

The JW Marriott Marquis Dubai officially opened in 2013 as the world’s tallest hotel.

Granted the official record from the Guinness Book of World Records, the 72-floor latest icon in Dubai’s skyline is made up of two towers standing 355 meters (1,164 feet) tall. The second tower opened in 2014.

But, Remo Stoffel, Swiss entrepreneur and chairman of Dubai-based Farnek, and US-based architect Morphosis have showcased the design of what will become the world’s tallest hotel.

The structure which is to be situated in Vals, in the Swiss Alps, is designed to reach a height of 381 metres, which once completed in 2019, will eclipse the JW Marriott Marquis Hotel in Dubai which currently holds the record.

According to Stoffel, the inspiration for the hotel came from Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

Let’s see how Dubai will react to this.

SIKKA Art Fair 15 / Best of Instagram

Few words for SIKKA

SIKKA is the first annual initiative of its kind founded by the Dubai Culture & Arts Authority to support and showcase Emirati and Dubai-based artistic talent.

SIKKA is an annual showcase specifically designed to feature UAE contemporary art practices and initiatives, through a diversity of artistic talent and stance, providing opportunity to experience home-grown creativity at its liveliest and best, in the heart of Dubai.

SIKKA draws its name from the alleyways between the historic houses of Dubai, and serves as a metaphor that befits the young and upcoming artists who seek to establish their creative and professional paths through their participation in the fair.

Now enjoy the best of Instagram, the best of you 🙂

Introducing Arabian Tea House

Nestled in Bastakiya, the oldest district of Dubai, began serving its authentic brand of food and beverages 15 years ago. The historic house belonged to a well known pearl merchant and retains its sense of tradition till today.

                1 5

The conversion of it into a traditional tea house was done with an eye to detail and meticulous attention to ensuring the heritage and charm of this place were apparent throughout its premises.

If you want to enjoy the indulgence of a taste of history in a modern city such Dubai, Arabian Tea House’s secret garden is the place to visit.

Their signature trademark is -of course- their teas, which they have sought from the best resources around the world. Their dedication to acquiring teas has allowed them to currently offer more than 150 varieties of tea and making them the largest Middle East center of teas in terms of variety.

                    Blooming Tea Lime with Mint

To complement their premium teas, Arabian Tea House also offers a unique menu consisting of traditional delicacies to satisfy healthy and curious appetites.

                        Healthy Breakfast                        Special Breakfast Tray

DubaiCat totally recommends Lime with Mint Iced Tea and Dates Cake. Yummi!

                                IMG_7341 IMG_7346

Next time we’ll definitely try some of the amazing selections of breakfast they offer. Stay tuned!

Special thanks to Mohammad Abdo Akash, Operations Manager for the warm hospitality and to the lovely Grace, Arabian Tea House’s dedicated employee since 2003, who provide us with some of the info and who effortlessly but successfully passed her love of this place to us.

Day or night, rain or shine (yes it actually rained while we were there and it was absolutely lovely), Arabian Tea House is the right place to be when you feel like escaping from the big city and visit your grandma’s garden for a while.
